Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has said that the constitution of Pakistan was the best guarantee for the national unity and harmony but a disqualified person was talking of amending the constitution. He was speaking at the flag-hoisting ceremony on the Independence Day at Mansoora. Hundreds of JI workers and youth besides JI leadership attended the impressive ceremony charged with emotions.
He said that neither any general nor any political leader was the binding force behind national unity and it was the constitution that was keeping the people and provinces together. Stating that Pakistan was like mother, he said that the leaders and workers of the JI would protect this country till the last drop of blood in their veins and till the last breath.
He said that those talking of dropping articles 62 and 63 of the constitution should instead clear their own faces from the dark spot over these. He made it clear that nobody would be allowed to make the constitution a play thing. The JI chief listed the main provisions of the constitution including its Islamic articles. He pointed out that ever since the Qadyanis were declared a non-Muslim minority, the Qadyani community had been conspiring against the constitution.
He lamented that the ruling junta had come down to the extent that it had handed over respected daughter of the nation, Dr Aafia Sidiqui, besides Yousuf Ramze and Kaimal Ansi, to the enemy for a few dollars. He, however, declared that the JI would not rest until Dr Aafia was released.
He said that the JI had begun the drive against corruption during the life of late Qazi Husain Ahmed and by now it had become the demand of the entire nation. Siraj said that as Muslims, the Pakistani people and leaders were supposed to teach other nations of honesty and truthfulness but the situation was otherwise and we were known for our corruption and dishonesty.
He urged the people to renew their pledge that they would strive for the supremacy of the Quran and the Sunnah that ensured end of corruption and cheating. Speaking on the occasion, JI Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch, said that independence was a great blessing of Allah and the nation should be thankful for having an independent country. He said that Pakistan had been achieved according to the vision of Allama Iqbal through the untiring efforts of the Quaid-i-Azam. He said that founder of the JI, Maulana Syed Abul Ala Maudoodi, presented to the nation the model of an Islamic state and it was due to the efforts of the religious forces that the historic Objectives Resolution was adopted that provided the founding principles of the country's polity. The Objectives Resolution laid down the principle that the Holy Quran and the Sunnah would be the supreme law in this country.
