The Karachi Port handled 173,138 tonnes of cargo comprising 136,402 tonnes of import cargo and 36,736 tonnes of export cargo including 6,842 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 136,402 tonnes comprised of 47,185 tonnes of containerised cargo; 16,935 tonnes of general cargo; 50,294 tonnes of bulk cargo: 30,472 tonnes of coal; 4,949 tonnes of soyabean meal; 9,161 tonnes of fertilizer; 2,228 tonnes of steel scrap; 1,786 tonnes of poultry feed and 21,988 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 36,736 tonnes comprised of 26,046 tonnes of containerised cargo; 10 tonnes of general cargo; 3,558 tonnes of urea and 7,122 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 6,842 containers comprising of 3,349 containers import and 3,493 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 1,090 of 20's and 1,125 of 40's loaded while 09 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 631 of 20's and 439 of 40's loaded containers while 596 of 20's and 694 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were seven ships namely Maribor, Cosco New Yark, Prosper, Pacific Julia, Totonno Bottiglieri, Mohar and Volans Leader carrying containers, oil tankers, chemical and vehicle respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were four vessels viz. Prosper, Al Safat, Arabian Orchid and Volans Leader carrying containers, oil tanker and vehicle respectively currently at the berths. There were two ships namely Al Safat and E Trader carrying containers and steel respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while four ships namely Amfitrion, Loch Maree, Malto Hope and Globe Pegasus carrying molassus, DAP and steel respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.
There were five vessels viz. Polo, MOL Earnest, Grand Neptune, Aliki-P and Spring Breeze carrying containers, vehicle, steel and palm kernel expeller respectively due to arrive on Wednesday while four vessels viz. Rio Cadiz, Libra, MSC Kerry and Oriental Jasmine carrying containers and oil tanker respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
The total export cargo of 23,142 tonnes includes 23,142 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 3,801 containers comprising of 2,583 containers import and 1,218 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
There were four ships namely CV Maersk Kinloss, MV Sea Speed, MT Maran Gas Asclepius and MT Pavino Spirit carrying containers, soyabean, LPG and furnace oil respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday. A total number of eleven vessels viz. CV Maersk Kinloss, CV MSC Algeciras, CV New Ark, CV MSC Meava, MV Sea Speed, MV Churban Sea, MT White Purl, MT Maran Gas Asclepius, MT Pavino Spirit, MT Arpeggio and MT Navig-8 Aragonite currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, soyabean meal, chemical, LPG, LNG, furnace oil and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as thirteen ships namely MV CL Flourish, MV Diya-B, MV Yas Gulten, MT Caspian Gas, MT Tiamat Gas, MT Gas Husky, MT Torm Valborg, MT Lion-M, MT Al-Salam-II, MT Bahra, MT Formosa Falcon, MT Maritime Suzzanne and MT Genuine Galaxy carrying general cargo, cement, coal, LPG, furnace oil, diesel oil and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
There were three vessels viz. MV CL Flourish, MV Yas Gulten and MT Al-Salam-II carrying general cargo, coal and diesel oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim Multi Purpose Terminal, Iron Ore & Coal Berth and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Wednesday. There were five ships namely MV CS Flourish, MV Han Yi, MV Ru Yi Song MV Gas Husky and MT Lilac Victoria carrying project cargo, LPG and diesel oil respectively due to arrive on Wednesday. There is one ship namely CV CMA CGM Indus carrying containers is due to arrive on Thursday.
