Top seed Noor Zaman, M. Hammad, Humam Ahmad, Ibrahim Khan and Laiba Ijaz secured victories in the final of the Independence Day Falak Sher Junior Age Group Squash Championship played at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex here Wednesday. Top seeded Noor Zaman recorded victory in the Under-15 category against Khushal Riaz in a marathon five sets battle lasted for 52 minutes. Both Noor Zaman and Khushal Riaz gave each other a tough fight which clearly evident from the score. The score was 12-10, 19-17, 11-13, 10-12 and 11-9.
Noor Zaman of PAF Academy played well after winning first two sets at 12-10 which was tied four times at 6-6, 7-7, 9-9, and 10-10 before Noor taking the set. It was the second set in which both Noor Zaman and Khushal Riaz played well and stretched to 19-17. It was a point to point bases struggle from both Noor Zaman and Khushal Riaz. The set was also tied at 5-5, 6-6, 7-7, 9-9, 10-10, 11-11, 12-12, 13-13, 14-14, 15-15, 16-16 and 17-17 before Noor Zaman won the battle by 19-17.
After winning first and second set, Noor Zaman lost an edge over the final and lost 3rd and fourth set by 11-13 and 10-12. The third set was tied four times at 8-8, 9-9, 10-10 and 11-11 while the fourth set was tied twice at 9-9 and 10-10. It was the fifth and decisive set when Noor got the tally 11-9 and marched into victory.
In the Under-13 category, top seeded M. Ammad of PAF Academy beat Huzaifa Zahid by 3-0, the score was 11-9, 11-9 and 12-10. M. Ammad fully dominated the proceedings and did not give much chance to Huzaifa Zahid to straight back. In the Under-11 top seed and Pakistan No. 1 Humam Ahmad of PAF Academy recorded victory against Abdullah Nawaz in straight sets, the score was 11-5, 11-7 and 11-6. Humam, who also won PSB Independence Cup yesterday, did not look behind and marched into victory in straight sets.
In the Under-9 category Ibrahim beat Ali by 3-1, the score was 10-12, 11-9, 11-7 and 11-7. In the Girls Under-15 Laiba Ijaz defeated Nimra Aqeel by 3-0, the score was 11-6, 11-6 and 11-7. Laiba Ijaz fully dominated the final and did not give much room to Nimra Aqeel to strike back. At the end, the chief guest Director Sports PAF Sports Control Board Committee Group Captain Amir Nawaz gave away trophies and cash prizes. Former World Champion Qamar Zaman, father of Falak Sher Gulab Sher, Nazim Nawa Khali Sajjad Khan Khalil, Chief Referee Munawar Zaman, Executive Members Wazir Gul, Sher Bahadar, coaches Riaz Khan, Maqsoon Hanif, Asghar Khan, Karam were also present.
