Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has reiterated his father's stance that he would not support ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif. "There is no threat, whatsoever, to democracy in the country," he added.
"The PML-N shouldn't be under confusion. We are not going to support them or provide any favour," said Bilawal, who was flanked by co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and senior party leadership in a press conference on Thursday afternoon.
He clarified that the PPP was running its own political campaign and it has nothing to do with Nawaz, saying the PPP would not extend any sort of support to the Sharif family.
Bilawal further said the PPP never supported Nawaz but stood with democracy. "Democracy has no threat whatsoever," he added. Speaking on the occasion, Zardari predicted limited political future of Nawaz and his family. He also made clear that he had neither received any favour from Nawaz Sharif nor he would seek any in future.
"We will stay within the limits of democracy. Nothing is permanent in politics," he said and added that Nawaz Sharif has been isolated because of his solo flight in politics. "We never supported Nawaz Sharif or his government, we just saved democracy," said Zardari and clarified that there should be no misunderstanding that they had supported him in any manner.
Zardari further said that he does not see the Sharif family in politics in future. The PPP co-chairman added that the PPP wants to see democracy evolving in the country as it is "a gradual process." He said during the PPP's tenure, there were no political prisoners and the PPP had always taken all stakeholders on board. Replying to a question, he said it was too late to form alliances as the 2018 general elections were approaching very fast.
