The chairman of the Enquiries and Anti-Corruption Establishment, Alamuddin Bullo, has expressed his displeasure at the poor performance of the ACE's prosecutors and investigation officers and said that inadequate case preparation will not be tolerated.
Presiding over a meeting to review prosecution of cases pending in anti-corruption courts across the province, he directed the investigation officers to use modern devices/technology and forensic tools to collect evidences for investigating financial crimes.
He expressed his displeasure over the huge number of cases in which investigation officers failed to investigate properly, and stated that strict action will be taken against officers who spoil cases with poor investigation.
He said that and the internal committee of the ACE will review all cases in which the prosecution failed, and if any flaws are found in investigation or prosecution stern action will be taken against the officer concerned. The chairman further stated that there is dire need for close coordination between prosecutors and investigation officers. The meeting also decided to establish an anti-corruption court at Mirpurkhas.
The meeting decided to take action under Sections 182 and 193 of the Pakistan Penal Code against an applicant providing fake evidence. The meeting was briefed about cases conducted during the last three years and convictions and acquittals granted last year. The meeting was informed by the director of Sindh's Anti-Corruption Establishment, Usman Ghani Siddique, that 1,458 cases are pending at in anti-corruption courts across the province. In 2017 so far 13 corrupt officials were convicted and 111 released by anti-corruption courts.
