The Punjab Emergency Service (PES) in a condolence reference has paid glowing tributes to Dr Ruth Pfau, a German doctor and philanthropist nun, who dedicated her life to healing leprosy patients in Pakistan. Addressing the ceremony, the Director General of Service Dr Rizwan Naseer said that Dr Ruth Pfau served humanity throughout her life. As a result of her tireless efforts, the World Health Organization declared Pakistan in 1996 one of the first countries in Asia to be free of leprosy, he added.
Terming her death as a great loss not only for Pakistan but for entire humanity, Naseer said that services of Dr Ruth would be long remembered in the history of Pakistan. He said that Dr Ruth Pfau landed in Pakistan in 1960 and decided to stay in the country after witnessing the plight of leprosy victims on the streets of Karachi.
