Huawei is building its own AI voice assistant for global market
After Google’s Assistant, Apple’s Siri, and Samsung’s Bixby, smartphone manufacturer Huawei too has decided to launch its virtual assistant outside China.
Almost all the major tech giants have their own AI-powered voice assistants for people all across the world. These include Samsung’s Bixby, Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, Microsoft’s Cortana, Google’s Assistant among others. Huawei’s virtual assistant Xiaoyi, which was previously available only in China, will now be launched in other parts of the world too, reported CNBC.
For now, Huawei’s Xiaoyi operates in its smart speaker called the AI Cube and its smartphones. In a recent interview with CNBC, Huawei’s Consumer Business CEO, Richard Yu, informed that the smartphone manufacturer is planning to release its voice assistant outside the country, however, he did not specify the languages it will support or when will it be available.
For now, as per GSM Arena, Huawei uses Google’s Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa for its products like smartphones and AI Cube outside of China. Though, Yu assured that Huawei will continue partnering with Google and Amazon moving forward.
“We are using our own in China, in (the) future we will also have our own outside of China. In the beginning, we are mainly using Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. We need more time to build our AI (artificial intelligence) services ... Later we will expand this outside of China,” said Yu during the interview.
