Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday filed a review petition before the Supreme Court, challenging the apex court's July 28 verdict in Panama Papers case through which National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has been asked to file reference against Dar for possessing assets and funds beyond his known sources of income. Senior Advocate Dr Tariq Hassan filed the review petition on behalf of Dar alleging that joint investigation team (JIT) in the matter overstepped its mandate.
"The JIT self-evidently exceeded its mandate by opining on whether or not petitioner's assets were disproportionate to his known sources of income and this august court has regrettably erred in law, an error floating on the surface of the record, in passing a direction for a NAB reference against the petitioner on the basis of a JIT report that was beyond its mandate as per this august court order of April 2017," counsel for Ishaq Dar submitted.
Ishaq Dar requested the court to dismiss all petitions by annulling July 28 ruling. He also raised questions over the appointment of a monitoring judge to oversee the investigations of corruption references by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
