A high-level meeting held to review progress of National Action Plan (NAP) on Wednesday expressed resolve to keep close eye on the activities of banned outfits in the country. The meeting was presided over by Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and attended by Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Haider Khan, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman and Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra.
The meeting was also attended by Chairman National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Usman Mobin, National Coordinator National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) Ihsan Ghani, National Security Advisor Nasser Janjua and chief secretaries of all provinces. A senior official said that the meeting decided to keep a close watch on banned outfits and the organizations on the watch list, besides developing consensus to ensure better coordination among Centre and provinces.
He said that the meeting also decided that provincial interior ministers will meet on monthly basis and chief ministers will meet after every two months regularly to review the progress made under NAP.
During the meeting, the interior minister said that federal and provincial governments are united to eradicate the menace of terrorism from the country. The NAP is the vision of national leadership, he said, adding that peace in the country is mandatory for strong economy. He said that top priority of the government is to defeat terrorism with the coordination of all provinces. Ulema and religious scholar need to play their due role in framing national counterterrorism narrative, he added.
The minister said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project will be made successful by using all resources. All conspiracies against the CPEC projects would be foiled, he added. National Security Adviser Nasser Janjua while briefing the meeting said that the anti-state elements have fled to Afghanistan where they have the protection of foreign intelligence agencies and terrorists. Action against hate material, misuse of loudspeaker and financers of terrorist is continued.
