Heavy rains for two days in a row created a host of problems for traders and customers at the cattle market of Sohrab Goth. Rainwater stagnated at certain places; however, the Mandi administration is working round-the-clock on an emergency basis and flushing out waste and mud speedily, said Maweshi Mandi Administrator Irshad Ahmed.
He said Pak Army helped Cantonment Board Malir (CBM ) to normalize Maweshi Mandi operations after heavy rains and on the request of the CBM, Army sent its bowzers and machinery to help the administration to remove rainwater. Meanwhile, the administration by doubling its workforce and with the help of CBM has been able to considerably restore the operations. Entry and exit points and central pathways have been smoothened while the remaining pathways are being cleared, he added.
He said the restoration process takes time and this year Maweshi Mandi has been set up on an area of 1,100 acres and this is why it took time to have the area cleaned. Irshad also requested people visiting Mandi to cooperate with the workers who are busy in the restoration work. He said teams are also working in every block of the cattle market to ensure normalcy. He said the administration immediately removed the dung-dump from the Mandi which would otherwise have created unbearable smell.
"I appreciate the gesture by Pak Army and the CBM for deployment of bowzers and machinery, workforce, bulldozers and trucks for taking out waste from the cattle market and clear the pathways," he added.
