The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Friday ordered the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to establish dengue cells in hospitals across the province against the outbreak. The court also ordered DG Health Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to submit report pertaining to the dengue patients on daily basis. Besides, the court ordered Deputy Commissioner Peshawar to submit complete details about the dengue endemic in the entire province.
The Peshawar High Court (PHC) while hearing dengue-related cases directed the provincial government to take concrete steps to control the disease. The court said the disease has spread to an alarming level, therefore, the provincial government should treat it as a public problem, not a political one.
Issuing orders to MTI hospitals of the province, the court remarked that better medical attention should be provided to dengue patients while concrete steps should be taken against the disease. On Friday, Provincial Health Minister Shahram Khan Tarakai visited Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) and reviewed the arrangements made against the widespread disease.
The minister issued directives to the hospital administration to provide better medical facilities to dengue patients and increase the number of Dengue Counter in the hospital to create awareness among the people regarding the disease. He also took notice of the fees taken from the dengue patients in the hospital.
Meanwhile, after outbreak of dengue in Peshawar, the disease has also spread to other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the provincial government has enhanced efforts to control the disease. According to details, three more cases of dengue have surfaced in Buner after which the number of dengue patients in the district has reached 10. Three dengue cases have also been confirmed in Swabi. A special ward has been prepared at Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital in Swat to cope with dengue cases. A report issued from the office of the deputy commissioner said 40 more dengue cases have been confirmed in Peshawar after which the total toll has reached 1,660.
