Health and nutrition experts have stressed need for mass multi-sectoral efforts to create awareness against malnutrition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They were addressing an awareness and sensitization session for print and electronic media in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regarding the importance of Provincial Multi-Sectoral Integrated Nutrition Strategy, organized under the auspices of Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Cell, Planning & Development Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here at local hotel.
Addressing the participants, Dr Jameel Ahmad of the UNICEF said that malnutrition is a phenomenon that should not be limited to children only as it goes along with life cycle. He said that 40% children become the victims of malnutrition from their birth. Dr Jameel Ahmad stressed upon need for investment on mothers during the same period. He said that none of the hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has neonatal and the province is also short of neonatologists.
He appreciated the endeavours of the provincial government and said that recently 99 posts of Nutrition Assistants have been created while 25 District Nutritionists have been approved for appointment at district level.
