Dera Ismail Khan and Bannu recorded victories against their respective rivals in the ongoing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inter-District Football Championship being played here at Sumbal Khan Football Ground, Qayyum Sports Complex on Friday. International footballer Zahir Muhammad was the chief guest on this occasion and before the start of the matches the players of all the four teams Dera Ismail Khan, Mardan, Bannu and Hangu were introduced to him. Organizing Secretary Basit Kamal and large number of spectators were also present on this occasion.
In the first match Dera Ismail Khan defeated Mardan by 2-1 in a thrilling match with Mardan got the lead in the sixth minute when right winger Naiz Muhammad slammed in a beautiful goal through right attempt. After scoring Dera Ismail Khan kept up pressure over Mardan goal-post and made some incisive rallies of attack and succeeded by scoring another goal when Jamshed netted a fine goal through field attempt.
After taking two goals to nil, Dera Ismail Khan gave no chance to Mardan to strike back as far as the first-half play was concerned. It was the second session in which Dera Ismail Khan lost some edge over the match and Mardan came back strongly by reducing the margin through Murad Khan on the field attempt. Murad travelled past the ball from the center line and zoomed quickly by reaching in front of the goal and kicked into the net to make the tally 2-1.
Thus Dera Ismail Khan won the match by 2-1. Imran, Gohar Rehman and Imtiaz supervised the match. In the second match Bannu stunned Hangu by 2-1 in another thrilling match witnessed by capacity crowd present on this occasion. The match was supervised by Alliuddin while Zeeshan and Dilawar acted as deputy referees while Qazi Muhammad Asif acted as commissioner of the matches.
