Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Syed Mansoor Ali Shah said the justice system could not be ensured until it is expediently dispensed at the doorsteps of needy people. He was addressing an inauguration ceremony of a project relating to provision of free legal assistance launched in collaboration of the European Union.
He said, "Today is idyllic day. We are here to represent those people who have no capacity to bear legal expenses." He added that the recent census pointed out population of around 110 million in Punjab while most of them had no easy excess to the courts.
He said there will be a financial problem, but this project could be made more viable with the co-operation of federal and provincial governments. He said the Chief Minister Punjab should earmark budget for this project so that the needy masses be awarded legal assistance. He also said that the Pakistan Bar Council, Punjab Bar Council and other bar associations should also contribute to this project. He said in judicial academy some new courses have been included in general training program.
