As many as four suspected robbers were killed on Saturday in an 'encounter' near Harbanspura graveyard, police said. They said police officials received information that around six robbers were looting commuters by installing a picket near Harbanspura graveyard. A contingent of police and rescuers reached the site soon after the information and alerted the bandit to surrender.
Eyewitnesses said the robbers did not pay any heed to the warning and opened indiscriminate fire on police which was retaliated. Resultantly, four alleged robbers were killed on the spot while two others managed to escape the scene.
Police said the deceased, identified as Atif, Umair, Naveed and Usman, were also involved in heinous crimes, they killed a young man, Faisal Ali, during an armed robbery last Wednesday in the same area, they added. The dead bodies were shifted to a mortuary for autopsy.
