NEW YORK: The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX rose 10.62 points, or 0.07 percent, to 15,155.50.
Leading the index were Baytex Energy Corp, up 6.1 percent, TORC Oil & Gas Ltd, up 6.1 percent, and Badger Daylighting Ltd , higher by 5 percent.
Lagging shares were Bombardier Inc, down 20.1 percent, Aphria Inc, down 6.3 percent, and Boyd Group Income Fund, lower by 4.6 percent. On the TSX 156 issues rose and 83 fell as a 1.9-to-1 ratio favored advancers.
There were 3 new highs and 14 new lows, with total volume of 284.9 million shares.
The most heavily traded shares by volume were Bombardier Inc, Aurora Cannabis Inc and Baytex Energy Corp.
The TSX's energy group fell 0.77 points, or 0.48 percent, while the financials sector slipped 0.75 points, or 0.26 percent.
West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 0.58 percent, or $0.33, to $56.79 a barrel. Brent crude rose 0.54 percent, or $0.36, to $66.98
The TSX is off 6.5 percent for the year.
