A report submitted by the Home Department before the Lahore High Court on Tuesday said that activities of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) Chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed will pose great threat to the public safety and cause breach of public order if released. The department submitted the report in a petition filed by the JuD leaders against their detention and the court adjourned the matter to September 19 as the organization's counsel sought time to go through the report.
The petitioners' counsel, AK Dogar, assailed detention orders issued on July 28, 2017 under section 1 of section 3 of Maintenance of Public order, 1960 for a period of next 60 days. The report said that Hafiz Saeed and other leaders of his organisations namely JuD and FIF had been detained to stop from collecting illegal funds for their organisations.
However, it said, the organisations of the detained leader carried on illegal collection of funds/charity during his detention as 23 criminal cases had been recently registered against the FIF.
The report further stated that by launching a yet to be registered political party "Milli Muslim League" and fielding a candidate in by-election for NA-120, the JuD leader reaffirmed the apprehensions of the law enforcement agencies (LEA) that if the detainee was released, his activities would create law & order situation. It said all LEAs have strongly recommended keeping the JuD leader under detention in the larger public interest.
