Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), which is ranked among the top 500 universities of the word, is facing several problems including land encroachment and use of drugs. "The university is confronted with several problems, which were also raised before the President, the Prime Minister, ministers and Islamabad Mayor, but they have not been fixed," said Vice Chancellor QAU Dr Javed Ashraf.
Dr Ashraf stated this while addressing a function organized at the varsity on Wednesday to celebrate the inclusion of the QAU among top 500 universities of the world in Times Higher Education Ranking 2017-18. Dr Ashraf said he was proud of being the vice chancellor of such a great university where 70 percent faculty members are PhD degree holders while 28 percent are completing their doctorate degrees.
Land mafia encroached upon the university land while a renowned politician has even built his house on the varsity land, he said. He said he was hopeful that Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Engineer Muhammad Balighur Rehman would resolve the matter. Muhammad Balighur Rehman addressing on the occasion congratulated the inclusion of QUA among the 500 top universities of the world, saying the university deserves it. He further said that before 2006, no university of the country was included in the top universities of the world. The QAU is also the top ranking university in the country according to the Higher Education Commission (HEC), he added.
Rehman declared the QAU as a flagship institution and said it is matter of great satisfaction to mark a remarkable achievement of Quaid-i-Azam University, which has been ranked for the second time in its 50 years history among the global top 500 universities in major international rankings. "Back in 2014-15, the university made Pakistan proud by achieving this distinction in the US News & World Report Rankings, and in 2017, you have demonstrated your commitment to excellence by an even better performance in the Times Rankings for Higher Education," he maintained.
