Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) has announced support to the PML-N candidate Begum Kulsoom Nawaz in the bye-election of NA-120 scheduled for September 17 in Lahore. JUP leader Pir Ijaz Hashmi announced the support after a meeting with PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz, here on Wednesday. Hashmi assured all out support to the PML-N candidate in the NA-120 bye-poll scheduled for September 17.
After the meeting, Pir Ijaz Hashmi told media that the JUP workers in NA-120 would not only cast votes in favour of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz but also work shoulder to shoulder with the PML-N in bringing voters of the constituency to the polling stations on the polling day. "The JUP stands with the PML-N in its endeavour for the country's prosperity," he said.
Maryam told the media that she is representing the entire Sharif family as her mother was away for cancer treatment in London and her father and uncle (Shahbaz Sharif) were also there. She expressed gratitude to the JUP and all others for extending support in NA-120 bye-poll.
When asked about former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar, Maryam said she respected Nisar regardless what he said to share his thoughts. "Chaudhry Nisar is my elder and an associate of my father," she said She expressed optimism that the PML-N candidate would emerge victorious on September 17, which would pave the way for a struggle aimed at securing bright future for the country as well as countrymen.
Maryam further said that roads were being constructed everywhere. "Those who blaming us for use of official resources must give details," she said, adding: "Our political opponents are habitual of leveling allegations. Don't make excuses; come into field."
It may be noted that Chaudhry Nisar had said Maryam should only be considered as Nawaz's daughter. "Children are only children, they cannot be accepted as leaders," Nisar said, adding children are "non-political". Earlier, Kulsoom Nawaz addressed the PML-N women workers who would act as party's polling agent in NA-120 bye-poll.
Speaking on the occasion, she exhorted upon the workers to keep their eyes and ears open and perform duties as polling agents efficiently. "If any wrong doing is committed on polling day, capture it on a video," she said. Maryam further said PML-N polling agents and other workers had to play an important role on the polling day.
