Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pervez Khattak on Thursday said that there still are some "corrupt officials" in the provincial police force and the government has to take them out of the force. While addressing a ceremony in the District Council Hall Peshawar at the launch of 'Bachat Bazaar' Khattak said, there still were corrupt policemen in the department that needs to be dealt with.
"We cannot let the whole system be ruined and jeopardized due to a few pigs," he said while lauding his government's steps to reform the local police department. The CM said that the law-keeping force have improved a lot during his tenure but there were still some black sheep left to be kicked out. He claimed that the previous governments deliberately left the police system to rot and made no efforts to improve it for petty personal gains.
Khattak, who recently drew public ire after the provincial government advertised a tender to build a swimming pool in his official residence while there is a dengue outbreak ongoing in the province, also chided the KP government's official photographer. "You never take a good picture of me," the CM remarked referring to the photographer who was documenting the event.
Pervez Khattak further said that a large number of politicians are enemies of the nation because they abuse public trust and vote for their personal benefit whenever they get opportunity and attain power. "Government institutions crumble and utterly fail to perform simply due to the wrongdoings of the politicians," he said. "If you don't follow merit in appointing heads of institutions they would certainly be hit hard and fail to perform," he further said.
The Chief Minister claimed that the people of KP voted his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, into power because it promised 'change'. "We eradicated political influence from the institutions and made them autonomous; we want these institutions to work independently and deliver," he said. He added that they are also working towards the beautification of Peshawar city while the Peshawar Mass Transit project will commence from October 1.
