Former Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Wednesday lambasted the government's foreign policy and questioned performance of Pakistani diplomats working in foreign missions. Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that Pakistani diplomats totally failed in countering the declaration of BRICS, wherein some proscribed organisations based in Pakistan were named and dubbed as regional security concerns.
The BRICS is an association of five major emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Nisar said that India despite all its efforts failed to include names of the Pakistan proscribed outfits in declaration of the BRICS last year, even being the host country for the event.
He said, "Diplomacy is a twenty-four hours job. Why did our diplomats and relevant officials in the Foreign Office fail to counter this development?" "We were taken aback by the BRICS declaration," he said, questioning as to why the Pakistan diplomats failed to forewarn the government about the possible development.
He said the relevant diplomats should be held accountable for their negligence because it hurt the image of Pakistan internationally. "The meeting took place in a friendly country China, but our diplomats kept sleeping," he said, adding, "Enemy became successful... what are our diplomats good for?"
Talking about a US drone strike that took place in Pakistani territory on September 15 last, he said that the Parliament has passed numerous condemnatory resolutions on the strikes and Pakistan's stance on the issue has been very clear that these hits are violation of the country's sovereignty.
Nisar said that it was surprising for him to know that the US ambassador to Pakistan called on the Prime Minister very next day of the drone strike, but against the norms no displeasure was shown to the ambassador over the drone strike. The former interior minister said there was not even a usual condemnation of the attack from the Foreign Office.
"Drone attacks are violation of our independence and sovereignty and are unacceptable," he said, adding that Pakistan has more enemies in the world and less friends. Nisar also lauded a recent statement of the UK Opposition Leader Jeremy Corbyn, wherein he appreciated Pakistan's role in the war against terror. He said that speaker National Assembly should write an appreciation letter to Jeremy Corbyn on behalf of the Parliament and to thank him for siding with Pakistan in this crucial time.
Responding to a calling attention notice regarding display of anti-Pakistan posters, particularly with regard to Balochistan in Geneva, Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch informed the House that Pakistan has strongly taken up the issue with Swiss authorities and handed over a demarche to Swiss ambassador too.
"There is no doubt that our enemies would have funded this massive campaign," he said, adding that there are clear proofs that India is supporting separatist elements in Balochistan. He said under the UN Charter, separatist and terrorist outfits, such as Balochistan Liberation Army, cannot carry out any activity on foreign land against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other country.
