Process of registration of unregistered Afghan refugees has been suspended for two weeks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over security concerns on the occasion of Muharram-ul-Haram. According to details, the process of registering about one million Afghan refugees was launched last month and over 50,000 refugees had been issued Afghan citizenship cards so far. The ongoing registration campaign will continue till December. However, the process has been suspended temporarily on the occasion of Muharram. The process will resume on 12th of Muharrum.
Sources said the Pak-Afghan border in Torkham would also remain closed on 9th and 10th Muharram and Afghan refugees would not be able to travel to their country during this period. The entry of unregistered Afghan refugees to sensitive districts has also been banned during the holy month. Meanwhile, Naib Nazim district council Mardan has called a meeting of the council on September 27 (Wednesday). Naib Nazim Asad Ali Khan has convened the meeting of the council at district council hall at 10am.
According to him, besides other important matters, the participants of the meeting will discuss in details new drafted by-laws for the C&W department, delay in issuing of development funds to council members and the changes made in the housing scheme of Ameer Mohammad Khan park in district Mardan.
