Bilawal Bhutto, PPP Chairperson, will contest election from the city of Lahore to regain ground in 2018 general elections, said PPP sources. In a recent meeting with Bilawal, sources said, the PPP Punjab leadership urged him to contest elections from Lahore and he has agreed accordingly.
The sources said the proposal was put forward to him during his visit to Sahiwal to address a public rally. They said former PPP Punjab President Manzoor Wattoo pointed out that no one from the party leadership had contested election from the city of Lahore over the last 23 years. It has disappointed the party workers by and large and they have switched their sympathies to PTI.
When asked, Manzoor Wattoo confirmed his dialogue with Bilawal. He said he has a strong conviction that the PPP would revive its glory in case Bilawal contests elections from the city. He confirmed that Bilawal responded the proposal positively. Wattoo said Benazir Bhutto was the last party leader who had contested from Lahore city after ZA Bhutto.
