The number of 3G and 4G users in Pakistan reached 44.49 million by end of August 2017 against 42.998 million by end-July 2017, said Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). Number of mobile phone users in Pakistan reached 139.97 million by end-August 2017 compared to 139.781 million by end of July 2017, which registered an increase of 189,008 during the period under review.
Jazz's total count for 3G users stood at 13.191 million by end of August 2017 compared to 12.533 million by end-July 2017, registering an increase of 657733. Jazz 4G user numbers jumped from 953,743 by end July to 1,236,307. Zong 3G subscribers increased to 8.77 million by end-August 2017 compared to 8.686 million by end of July, while the number of 4G users jumped from 4,418,333 by end-July to 4,573,970 by end-August.
The number of 3G users of Telenor network also increased from 10.531 million by end of July 2017 to10.568 million. Like others, the number of 4G users jumped from 724,157 by end-July 2017 to 849,139 by end August 2017. Ufone added 148,075 3G users on its network during the month of August as the total number reached 5.298 million by end of August against 5.150 million by end of July 2017.
Teledensity for cellular mobile reached 70.25 percent and broadband subscribers reached 46,868,237 by end of August as compared to 45,500,756 by end-July 2017. The PTA said that it received 4,490 complaints from telecom consumers against different telecom operators including (cellular operators, PTCL, LDIs, WLL operators and ISPs) during August 2017.
According to the PTA data, the PTCL leads the chart with 1,585 and Jazz (Mobilink + Warid) stands at the second position as the most complained telecom operator with 951 complaints. The PTA said that it was able to get 92.41 percent complaints resolved. Cellular mobile subscribers constitute major part of overall telecom subscriber base; therefore, maximum number of complaints belongs to this segment. Total number of complaints against CMOs during August 2017 stood at 2,812.
In terms of the segregation of complaints on operator basis, a total of 951 complaints were received against Jazz which is 34% of the total CMO related complaints.
Telenor, which has the second largest number of consumers, was second with 876, ie, 31 percent complaints were received against it. Zong stood third with 568 complaints ie 20 percent of total complaints. Ufone had 417 complaints against its various services, which make up 14 percent of the total CMO-related complaints.
