The Punjab Provincial Development Working Party (PPDWP) has approved Rs 23 billion for enhancing public private partnership (PPP) in mega infrastructure projects for sustainable economic growth and development. The approval was given in the PPDWP's 19th meeting of the current fiscal year 2017-18 presided over by Chairman P&D Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan here on Friday. Provincial Secretaries and other senior representatives of the relevant departments also attended the meeting.
The P&D spokesman told Business Recorder that the government was investing Rs 50 billion in different development projects in Punjab to tap private investment and managerial abilities for provision of world class public infrastructure and service delivery.
The PPP cell's projects included infrastructure, health, education, housing, roads, forestry, tourism, resort development, water treatment plants and urban services; located in different cities of Punjab.
The PPP's 41 development projects included Flyover at Railway Crossing, Defense road at the estimated cost of Rs 2,994 million and Vehicle Inspection & Certification System at an estimated cost of Rs 900 million, Lahore Ring Road (Southern Loop) with an estimated cost of Rs 24,246 million, Drivers' training program in Punjab, Rawalpindi Ring road, Diagnostic Centers at DHQ and THQ hospitals, Surface Water treatment plant in Lahore, Dual carriageway Dina Mangla road, Parking plazas and shopping mall in Faisalabad, Wastewater treatment plant Faisalabad etc.
The PWDP also approved four other projects in its 19th meeting on Friday including: Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control & Communication (PPIC3) Centre, Lahore (Revised) at the cost of Rs 14,527.00 million. Promotion of Gram cultivation through Life Saving Irrigation with Sprinkler System under changing climate at the cost of Rs 380.080 million.
Rehabilitation/Reconstruction/Wid. & Imp. of road from Sahiwal to Sillanwali via Farooqa length 26.17 km, Sargodha at the cost of Rs 694.413 million and, Third Party Validation of roadmap data on basic health units and Rural Health Centers (PC-II) at the cost of Rs 21.524 million.
