The Central General Council (CGC) of ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday unanimously endorsed the Central Working Committee's (CWC) amendments in constitution of party which finally paved the way for the deposed party chief Nawaz Sharif to reelect as the party's president.
The CGC which held at Convention Center came up with a unanimous decision and endorsed the CWC's approved amendment in the party's constitution to abolish the condition that any disqualified person from the court cannot hold any party office. The amendment in Article 120 (C) was presented by party's secretary-general Ahsan Iqbal.
Addressing the meeting, party's chairman Raja Zafar-ul-Haq said that the party will continue in serving the nation under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif. He also claimed that Saudi Arabia and Iran were supporting Nawaz Sharif and his agenda for the unity of Muslim Ummah.
He also maintained that various opposition MNAs also voted in favour of the election bill in National Assembly passed on Monday. Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said PML-N will continue its efforts to ensure supremacy of law, adding that the party's government was finally getting rid of the laws framed by dictators.
Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique said the general council will reelect Nawaz Sharif as the PML-N president today (Tuesday), adding all political parties have rights to elect their party leaders as per their aspirations. The general council also adopted various resolutions reposing confidence in leadership of Nawaz Sharif, condemning Indian atrocities against innocent Kashmiri people and also condemning the brutalities against Rohingya Muslims in a separate resolution.
Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif who attended the meeting briefly and left without addressing the participants. Minister of State for CADD Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider, Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, Balochistan Chief Minister Sardar Sanauallah Zehri, Sarfraz Jatoi, Amir Muqam and other PML-N leaders also addressed the participants.
