The annual Achievement Awards organised by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) have now become an established tradition, for which I appreciate the efforts made by the past and present office-bearers and members of the FPCCI. The recognition and honour conferred by these awards provide strong incentives to our business community to perform even better and thereby contribute more substantially towards accelerating the pace of socio-economic development in Pakistan.
As evidence from the region suggests, expansion in trade and commerce are a critical factor behind the prosperity of nations. The federal government is making every conceivable effort to improve the ease of doing business in the country and create an enabling environment for the private sector to invest in the productive sectors of the economy, particularly in export-oriented industries. This includes our untiring efforts to remove energy constraints and expand physical infrastructure. I take this opportunity to urge our experienced as well as our young entrepreneurs to come forward and do their duty to their country and people as true patriots. I would also like to remind them that the vast forward and backward linkages of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor will soon open up a whole new world of possibilities for them.
During the last four years the federal government has taken two important policy initiatives. The first was to clearly recognise the private sector as the primary engine of economic growth and start moving away from the business of doing "business." The second has been to associate the private sector with the government's economic and financial policymaking process to ensure optimality and continuity in the policy framework. This should further strengthen the confidence of our entrepreneurs.
I congratulate the recipients of the 5th FPCCI Achievement Awards on their performance, and commend the efforts of the President FPCCI, Zubair Tufail, office-bearers of the FPCCI, and all organisers of this event. I wish our business community every success in their present and future ventures.
