Rangers Sindh on Wednesday claimed to have arrested three accused involved in killing of an MQM Pakistan's Union Council (UC) Vice Chairman. A paramilitary spokesman in a detailed statement said an intelligence-driven raid was conducted at Shah Faisal Colony area of metropolis wherefrom three accused associated with banned Muttahida Qaumi Movement London (MQM-L) were arrested on charges of their involvement behind killing of Rasheed Mama.
Their identifications have been ascertained as Asif Rais son of Rais-ud-Din, Shahid Aziz son of Abdul Aziz, and Muhammad Danish Khan son of Mahboob Khan. In a predawn assault on July 30 last, two motorcyclists had gunned down MQM-P Korangi District UC-13 Vice Chairman Muhammad Rasheed in Rifah-e-Aam Society. The victim had sustained three bullet wounds to his upper torso and expired due to massive bleeding on the way to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
Meanwhile, Rangers formed a special team to investigate the incident in light of evidences collected from the crime spot that led to arrest of the accused. Highlighting the details of the investigation, the Rangers statement said that Rasheed aka Mama's murder was carried out on directions of Kehkshan, an MQM-L's coordination committee member from United States of America (USA) via WhatsApp. Two armed motorcyclists took part in that assault while their accomplices were put on backup to thwart any possible resistance.
A few days after the assault, Kehkshan sent them Rs0.3 million as reward by two installments; of which Rs 150,000 were received by accused Asif Rais via Hawala Hundi whereas the remaining Rs 150,387 were sent to his friend Chand's wife Huma Chand's ID card. Rais and Huma Chand received the said amount from Western Union office North Karachi on August 4, 2017.
The under arrest accused during the course of paramilitary interrogations, confessed to have carried out various target killings, extortions, provocative wall-chalking on directions of MQM-L leadership from London, the statement added. It may be pertinent to mention here that MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar had linked the killing of UC Vice Chairman Mohammed Rashid's murder with the party's victory in PS-114. He had also urged the government to take action over threats allegedly given from London to MQM workers.
