National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with Oxfam GB on Friday to promote a culture of prevention, mitigation and better & enhanced preparedness ahead of disasters to make communities more resilient by jointly working under the umbrella of National DRR Policy & National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP) priorities.
Chairman NDMA Lt-General Omar Mahmood Hayat, HI (M), and Country Director Oxfam GB, M Hassan Qazilbash signed the MoC, says a press release issued here. The broad areas under the MoC are: 1. Support NDMA in the execution of NDMP & implementation road map; 2. Engagement of civil society & community for mutual support; 3. Support in regional cooperation and linkages.
Speaking at the occasion, the chairman NDMA said resilient Pakistan is the major aim of NDMA and implementation of priority areas of NDMP will contribute to the resilient of the community at all levels. He appreciated the contribution of Oxfam GB for building resilience of the community against frequent disasters. He impressed upon that NDMA in line with international obligations has shifted its focus from reactive approach to proactive approach with main focus on disaster risk reduction.
Qazilbash appreciated the leadership of NDMA for their active role and highlighted that collaboration between NDMA and Oxfam GB will continue for resilience of the communities at all levels.-PR
