The Punjab Provincial Development Working Party approved two schemes of roads sector with an estimated cost of Rs 4 billion in its 20th meeting of current fiscal year presided over by Chairman P&D Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan. Secretary P&D Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, All Members of the Planning & Development Board, Provincial Secretaries concerned and other senior representatives of the relevant Provincial Departments also attended the meeting.
The approved development schemes included:
1. Improvement / Rehabilitation of Rawalpindi Murree Kashmir Road km.66 to 104 length=38 km, Rawalpindi at the cost of Rs 2327.368 million and
2. Widening of Aik Moria Pull, Lahore (Revised) at the cost of Rs 703.600 million.
It is worth mentioning that the government has finally accepted the long standing demand of millions of people living in north Lahore on the other side of the Railway line and the business and trade community to widen the 150 years old Aik Moria Bridge to remove frequent traffic jams due to narrow roads as well as passage of Aik Moria Bridge. The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has already issued a notice inviting bids from recognized engineering firms.
