Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar has requested business community to help support infrastructural issues of the metropolis. Addressing businessmen on his visit to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) head office the Mayor requested traders to practically take part in the city's progress besides giving recommendations to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
People from the business community are financially sound, and they can take effective part for the betterment of the city, Mayor said. Waseem said KMC is facing shortage of funds, alleging the provincial government has taken powers and resources from the city government. Despite financial impediments, he said that the industrial problems can be resolved with mutual efforts.
He said that a road has been constructed in Allah Wala Town and electric poles would be fixed soon. However, he requested KATI to support KMC for provision of street lights in the area.
He said sewerage system is the major reason behind dilapidated road conditions in the metropolis. Once the sewerage system is improved, 90 percent civic issues would automatically get resolved.
Arguing he said newly constructed roads get broken within a couple of weeks after completion due to poor sanitary system. Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) is functioning under Sindh Government, it should step up to address the concerns of citizens, he said. "I have informed Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah several times, but to no avail," he lamented. President KATI Tariq Malik, Senior Vice President Salman Aslam, Vice President Junaid Naqi, Member provincial assembly Amir Moeen Pirzada, Vice Chairman Distract Korangi Syed Ahmar Ali and others were also present on the occasion.
