Director General (DG) Sports KP Junaid Khan Tuesday confirmed that the Pakistan's biggest Peshawar International Marathon Race of 42.5km will be organized in December this year wherein athletes from around 40 countries of the world participate.
The Peshawar International Marathon, carrying hefty prize of US $200,000, will be the biggest event after London and Mumbai Marathons. The event is the joint venture of the Directorate of Sports and Directorate of Youth Affairs KP. The delegation was received by DG Sports and DG Youth Affairs KP on their arrival at the Peshawar Sports Complex in their last leg of two-day visit to Peshawar. The five members AIPS Asian delegates were briefed by DG Sports Junaid Khan about the upcoming mega events - Peshawar International Marathon Race and National Youth Carnival Mega Challenge-2017.
The DG Sports Junaid Khan underlined the importance that has been given by the govt to sports besides engaging the youth in healthy activities. Mr. Junaid Khan said that two biggest events - The Peshawar International Marathon and Youth Carnival are currently in the pipeline and preparations were being made for holding the two events in befitting manners.
The delegation led by recently elected General Secretary of the AIPs Asian Amjad Aziz Malik (Pakistan) with other members comprising Bassen Rawass (Qatar), Mubarik Al Boainin (Qatar), Miss Halium Chi (Chinese Taipei), elected as Treasurer of AIPs Asia Naranjan Rajbanshi (Nepal), Parkash Timalsina (Nepal).
The DG disclosed that it will be the first marathon of the Pakistan's history which carried a handsome cash prize of Rs 20 million. He said the winner of the international athlete category of 42.5km marathon race will be awarded US $ 100,000 for first position, US $ 50,000 for second position and US $ 25000 for third position besides US $ 15000 each from 4th to 10th position and US $ 1000 each for 11th to 20th positions respectively.
He said disclosed that the international category open for all, a 10km marathon race will purely be organized for the athletes from KP and FATA. The winner will be awarded US $ 10,000 second position will get US $ 700 and third position will be awarded US $ 500. Other winners up to 10th position will get US S 300 each.
He said President Athletic Federation of Pakistan Major General Akram Sahi (retd) fully assured that the AFP would extend all out cooperation to the govt of KP. DG Youth Asfandyar Khan Khattak said that besides the International Marathon Race, KP is also holding National Youth Carnival Mega Challenge-2017.
He said more than 25000 youth from across Pakistan will come to Peshawar to participate in the NYC Mega Challenge-2017. He said the youth would compete in drama, thematic Art, painting, Calligraphy, Short Film, Urdu Singing, English singing, Pashto Singing, Cultural Dance, Music Band, Qiraat, Spelling Bee, Sell-It, Na'at, English Declaration, Urdu Declamation, Urdu Essay Writing, Pashto Essay Writing, Bait Bazi, Quiz Competition, Business Plan, Ad Making, Stand Up Comedy, Extra Ordinary/Unique Talent, Console Gaming (FIFA-2017), Chess and Spot Photography.
