Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday extended special policing powers granted to the Rangers for 90 days within Karachi. According to the details, the CM approved a summary extending the powers granted to the paramilitary force under Section 4(2) of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997 within Karachi division for 90 days. The summary will be forwarded to the federal government for approval.
The Pakistan Rangers Sindh will now be able to exercise their special powers from October 13 to January 13, 2018 The government had initiated the Rangers led targeted operation in Karachi in September, 2013, to curb terrorism, kidnapping for ransom, extortion, targeted killings and other heinous crimes in the port city. The operation successfully contained criminal activities in the city to a great extent creating semblance of peace.
