Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government Friday inaugurated 2.6 megawatt capacity Machai Hydropower Station in district Mardan. The project has formally started the production of electricity, which is contributing 14GwH electricity to national grid.
The formal inauguration of Machai Hydropower Station was performed by Secretary Energy and Power, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Engineer Mohammad Naeem Khan during a special ceremony held in village Aluo, district Mardan. Besides, experts of energy sector, officials of German and Pakistani company working on the project were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony, Secretary Energy, Engineer Naeem Khan said that Machai Hydropower Station a unique energy producing project was initiated with financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is rich of natural resources, which has generation potentials of over 30,000MW cheap electricity. He said that rivers and canals flowing in the province were big asset of the province.
Engineer Naeem Khan said that Machai Hydropower Project was launched on Machai canal as pilot project, whose fundamental purpose was the promotion of investment to attract private sector and said that their journey towards success has begun. He disclosed that in next few days 17MW Raniwala and 36.5MW Dral Khawar hydropower projects will also be inaugurated.
He said that these projects will prove milestone in the economy stability and development of the province. He congratulated the contractors, consultants, project director and other team members, who had worked on the project and expressed the hope that the completion of the project will usher a new era of progress and prosperity in the area and will generate employment opportunities for the locals.
