Sports play a pivotal role to make youth healthy and productive for the society and it is in this respect that State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is making conscious and practical efforts for the promotion of healthy sports activates within its domain, said Mr. Waqas Kashif Bajwa Chief Manager SBP Faisalabad.
He was talking to media persons before inaugurating 14th SBP Governor Cup Inter-Bank Regional Cricket Tournament 2017-18 in Bohran Wali Ground here on Tuesday. This tournament was organized by Bankers Club while national cricketer Saeed Ajmal and Regional Head of the Zari Taraqiati Bank Mr. Shahid Razaq was also present during this function. Commenting on the popularity of the cricket in Pakistan and throughout this world, he said that this play is promoting international harmony in addition to cultivating healthy values of tolerance and competition among different nations.
Quoting the recent world cricket championship Trophy, he said that the final of this event played between Pakistan and India was directly witnessed by the half of world population which helped people to change their perception about Pakistan. He said that this event also had positive and salutary impact on the national exports as it promoted trend among international buyers to purchase Pakistani products.
He said that we are harvesting maximum benefits from this international event which were otherwise unachievable even after spending billions of Dollars on lobbing for Pakistan. He said that SBP is supporting various sports with a focus on promoting cricket. Razaq Shahid Regional Manager ZTB told that 7 teams of different banks from this region are participating in this tournament. The organizers are extending best possible facilities to the participating cricketers. He further told that the final of this tournament will be played on October 25.
Later Waqas Kashif Bajwa along with cricketer Saeed Ajmal inaugurated the tournament. Meanwhile the opening match of the tournament was played between National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Zari Taraqiati Bank (ZTB). Bating first, NBP scored 207 runs within the stipulated 20 over. However the ton by Shahid Muzafar helped ZTB to achieve the given target during 13th over. Later Waqas Kashif Bajwa distributed prizes. He also plumed Muhammad Shahid of ZTB who was also declared Man of the Match.
