Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said that youth holds the key of future as the people of his age have played their innings and now it is turn of the youth to play its role in national development. Shehbaz said this while talking to a delegation of students of Balochistan Residential College, Khuzdar, who called on him at Model Town on Thursday.
The Chief Minister gave away laptops to the students and announced to provide a new bus besides construction of residences and a state-of-the-art science lab in the college.
He said that Pakistan consists of its federating units comprising of Balochistan, KPK, Sindh, Punjab, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, and the people will have to work collectively to make this country great in the community of nations. "There is a need to overcome the challenges of providing basic services to the people including healthcare and education as there has never been any dearth of resources, he said, adding: "We are, however, lacking commitment, hard work and passions. We owe everything to Pakistan as it is our only identity. If national unity and harmony is strengthened, then we all shall be strong. No nation can make progress or flourish without first improving its education, healthcare and the situation of law and order, and we have remained unsuccessful in achieving national targets, as a nation, during the last 70 years."
While talking to the students, the Chief Minister said that national resources are distributed among the provinces through NFC Award; adding that the political forces made consensus on NFC Award with consultation in 2010. The task which Musharraf could not perform through force was achieved by the political forces through love, affection and mutual consultation, he said, adding: "The Punjab government sacrificed a colossal amount of Rs 11 billion of its share for the NFC Award and during the last seven years it has given Rs 77 billion of its share."
Shehbaz said it is a cruel joke that Indian assistance has been suggested for elimination of terrorism in the country. If our house is in order then an outsider cannot do anything. If our house is intact and we are living with unity, then no outside force can break us. We need to put the house in order," he said, adding: "Today the time has come to make the decision of becoming self-reliant. Pakistan is a nuclear power and no one can dare look us in the eye but the atomic power does not guarantee a nation to survive and the example of defunct USSR is before us which has been Balkanized despite being the second global military power then. Japan and Germany were destroyed in the Second World War but they transformed their failures into successes."
He said: "Today we are exploiting each other and befooling the nation through baseless allegations. The accountability of the elements who have mercilessly looted the nation during the last 70 years has not been done."
According to him, accountability rests with NAB but it has become the most corrupt organization. NAB was politically utilized during the regime of Musharraf and afterwards. That is the reason, instead of eliminating corruption; NAB has become a hub of corruption.
Professor Mati-ur-Rehman of Balochistan Residential College Khuzdar, Provincial Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani, Advisor Dr Umar Saif, Vice Chairman PEEF Dr Amjad Saqib, Secretary Higher Education and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
