The Senate Functional Committee on Problems of Less Developed Areas Thursday expressed displeasure for noncompliance with the committee's directives regarding matters related to National Commission for Human Development (NCHD). Senator Muhammad Usman Khan Kakar chaired the meeting of the committee.
While reviewing the implementation of recommendations finalised by the committee concerning NCHD employees' issues, like postings, payment of salaries, arrears, framing rules and regulations, contract employees' matters etc, the committee observed that none of its recommendations was taken seriously by the ministry.
Senator Nisar Mohammad said the ministry was delaying implementation of the decision of the court. He criticized that the organisation was not fulfilling its responsibility regarding improving literacy in the country. He argued that illiteracy rate in Balochistan was very high. He said that 65 percent children of school going age were not enrolled in schools.
The committee directed the ministry to provide details of teachers who were employees of the NCHD. The committee further directed to release the salaries of 72 employees of NCHD. Expressing dissatisfaction over the performance of the Commission, the committee directed to hold a special audit.
