Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah here on Friday adjourned hearing till November 8 the proceedings of a petition seeking implementation of environment laws and directed the law officer to present the notification about smog policy. Earlier, the Punjab Environment Protection Department told the court that the Chief Minister Punjab has signed "smog policy" and the same will be notified in official gazette in a day.
A legal advisor of the department presented a draft of the policy before the court. He said air monitoring system would be expanded under the smog policy besides enforcement of Pollution Charge Rules 2001 and environmental laws. He said with the upgrade of central laboratory a check and balance system would be introduced in collaboration with Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industries on industrial units emitting green house gas emissions.
