Barrister Abid Waheed Shaikh, managing director of Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal and the regional director (Sindh) Dr. Adnan Majeed Khan visited Omair Sana Foundation and participated in the birthday cake-cutting ceremony of Thalassaemia children. The MD Bait-ul-Maal Barrister Shaikh appreciated the way OSF was serving the community especially in the realm of Thalassaemia.
On the occasion, he told the media that taking advantages of expertise, his organization is making a joint venture with Omair Sana Foundation for a state of the art Thalassemia centre in Karachi.
"We are already catering 28 percent Thalassaemia patients in various centers," he said, adding that Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal is successfully running three Thalassaemia Centre in Punjab and want to setup some centres in Sindh as well. He endorsed that prevention is vital along with management of this disorder so that it could be contained. He said they were also working on national registry to know exact figures of patients in Pakistan and its annual incidences. He said that they would devise well-coordinated strategy, with other NGOs, to achieve targets.
Earlier, Dr, Saqib Ansari, general secretary OSF briefed the delegation about the activities and services of the Foundation for management and eradication of Thalassaemia. He said that prevention is a prime focus along with management of Thalassemia where media and other stakeholders are part of their awareness campaign. Without focus on prevention, eradication of Thalassaemia is far cry in the society. He said that Thalassemia status should be mentioned in CNIC. Tahseen Akhter, finance secretary OSF and Obaid Hashmi joint secretary OSF and others were also present and they presented a memento to Barrister Shaikh.
