The Lahore High Court on Friday dismissed an intra-court appeal (ICA) for being not maintainable seeking direction for action against all persons named in the Panama Papers scam. Engineer Muhammad Ilyas of Awam Dost Party pleaded that over 300 individuals were named in the Panama Papers for establishing offshore companies, however, only ousted premier Nawaz Sharif and his family had been facing a legal action. He said targeting one family and ignoring other influential persons named in the scam would not serve the real purpose of justice.
The petitioner expressed apprehensions that the persons named in the Panama Papers could flee the country to avoid legal proceedings against them. He asked the court to put all those involved in the scandal on exit control list. The appellant prayed to the court to order NAB, ECP and other institutions to initiate legal action against all the persons named in the Panama Papers scam.
