Model Customs Collectorate (MCC), Exports claimed on Saturday to have foiled an attempt to send substantial quantity of psychotropic drugs to UAE under the guise of fabric consignment. Speaking at a press conference held at Customs House, Collector Exports Chaudhry Javed said that credible information was received that some unscrupulous elements were planning to export huge quantity of drugs by concealing the same in fabric consignment with the support of transporters.
Reacting on this information, all export-oriented fabric consignments were put under strict surveillance that led the recovery of substantial quantity of psychotropic drugs worth Rs 2.9 million.
According to details, Mega Industries, Faisalabad has submitted a Goods Declaration (GD) of fabric consignment designated to Jeelani Star General Trading, UAE. The goods declared in GD were 487 kilograms polyester man made dyed fabrics, 263 kilograms polyester man made white fabrics, 8445 kilograms polyester man made dyed printed ladies chadders, 3256 kilograms of 100 percent cotton dyed fabric (stock lot), 2019 kilograms of 100 percent cotton white fabrics (stock lot) and 450 kilograms polyester man made dyed (unstitched) ladies suits
However, the accused Muhammad Nazim in consultation with M/s Jilani International Cargo services having office at Jilani Tower, Karachi tried to hoodwink the customs authorities by concealing the psychotropic medicines in the said consignment. The customs department has recovered 48 kilograms or 20000 strips of said tablets worth Rs 2.9 million. Consequent up on recovery, the case is being registered and further investigation was underway.
