Prices of essential food commodities have remained unchanged in retail market, according to survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday. Traders in provincial capital have attributed that the prices have continued to soar due to low supply and production of the commodities. Buyers have blamed the authorities for their failure to keep check on increasing rates of important food items in the market.
The survey noticed that the prices of vegetable, pulses, sugar, except chicken meat, eggs, fruits, have remained 'sky-high' in local market. Price of ginger has increased at Rs 320 per kg from Rs 200 per kg, while garlic is being sold at Rs 300, Rs 250 and Rs 200 per kg. Tomato is another most important daily use item of kitchen, which is being sold at Rs 100 per kg, while onion priced at Rs 80 and Rs 90 per kg in retail market. Green chili is being sold at Rs 80 per kg, while lemon at Rs 100 per kg.
Calabash is being sold at Rs 120 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs 80 per kg, kaddo at Rs 50 per kg, arvi at Rs 40 per kg, cabbage at Rs 40 per kg, cauliflower at Rs 50 per kg, Red potato at Rs 60 per kg, and white potato at Rs 40 per kg, the survey noticed.
According to survey, a sharp decrease was witnessed in price of chicken meat, as available at Rs 112 per kg, which was selling at Rs 134 per kg during last week in retail market. Price of a dozen of farm egg has also increased at Rs 110 and Rs 120 against the Rs 100 per dozen in last week.
The survey witnessed a mix trend in prices of food grains, as some items have registered increase while other stable in retail market. Price of one-kg big white channa has increased at Rs 220 from Rs 200 per kg, while dal mash is being sold at Rs 180 per kg against the Rs 160 per kg during previous week, the survey noticed, while dal channa priced at Rs 140 per kg in retail market.
Likewise good quality sela rice is being sold at Rs 125 per kg against the Rs 115 per kg, while toota rice priced at Rs 80 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs 60 per kg during the last week.
Price of gram flour (baisen) has become costlier in retail market as being sold at Rs 140 per kg, which was selling at Rs 120 per kg during the previous week. Red bean is being available at Rs 140 per kg, against the Rs 120 per kg. White lobiya priced at Rs 120 per kg in retail market. Dal green is being available at Rs 120 per kg, moonge at Rs 120 per kg, dal masoor at Rs 100 per kg.
An increase of Rs 5 per kg/litre has been registered in all brand and quality of cooking oil/ghee, the survey noticed. Sugar is being sold at Rs 60 per kg in retail market. Butchers are defying the official rates, and selling cow meat at exorbitant rate in retail market, according to which cow beef is being available at Rs 300, Rs 320 and Rs 340 per kg. Mutton is being sold at Rs 700 and Rs 750 per kg.
According to survey, apple is being sold at Rs 120 and Rs 150 per kg, pomegranate at Rs 150 per kg, grapes at Rs 100 per kg, guava at Rs 80 per kg, banana at Rs 50 and Rs 80 per dozen. The survey noticed that one litre fresh milk is being sold at Rs 100 and Rs 120 against the official fixed rate of Rs 80 per litre. Yogurt is being available at Rs 100 and Rs 110 per kg. Good quality black tea is being available at Rs 350 per kg and Rs 400 per kg, green tea at Rs 250 per kg.
