Negligence in implementing court's orders: CDA asked to start criminal proceedings against its officials
The Supreme Court on Thursday issued directives to Capital Development Authority (CDA) to initiate criminal proceedings after taking disciplinary action against its director generals of environment and estate for showing negligence in implementing court's orders for stopping cutting of trees in the city.
Expressing dismay over cutting of trees on Embassy Road, Islamabad, at the pretext of VIP movement, a two-member bench led by Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh expressed dismay over cutting of trees for broadening the road. Resuming the hearing of a suo motu notice regarding cutting of trees from Margalla Hills and Lora of KPK province by stone crushing mafia, a two-member bench of Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh expressed dismay over trees felling on Embassy Road and sought details pertaining to cost of the project.
Other member of the bench Justice Qazi Faez Isa observed that there is no footpath for pedestrians in the city but the civic body is more worrisome about those having precious vehicles and expanding the road at the opportunity cost of cutting trees.
Justice Qazi Faez Isa questioned who should be sent behind the bars over cutting of trees, saying by placing containers in different areas the capital city has been converted into war zone. Dubbing the Capital Development Authority as capital destruction authority, Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh issued directives to the CDA to take action against encroachments in restricted zones of the city across the board either there is a judge or a general, adding that Islamabad Capital Territory administration and the CDA officials should feel ashamed over cutting of trees.
Justice Sheikh warned the people at the helm of affairs that court will take strict action over negligence and will not spare anybody who is found guilty in the matter. Later, the court asked the authorities concerned to take action against the CDA officials who are behind the violation of the court's directives and adjourned the matter for a day.
