Speakers in a conclusion ceremony of 3-day workshop on "Research Methodology and Academic Writing" have stressed the need for university faculty to orient themselves with basic as well as latest trends in research for their career development and social uplift. They emphasized that research merely for sake of professional uplift would not be enough, it must address social issues with a view to bring masses its benefits.
The ceremony was organized by Faculty of Education, Elsa Kazi Campus, University of Sindh, Hyderabad at its premises. Professor Dr Ghulam Sarwar Gachal, who was filling in for VC-SU Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat in his remarks said that university faculty who were participating in the workshop must have enormously benefited from the experience. "It is good for the new entrants to acquaint themselves with research principles at the outset of their careers," he said.
Fida Hussain, Director General of Learning Innovation Division, Higher Education Commission, Islamabad said that HEC had research as a priority item on its agenda. He said they were more than willing to help University of Sindh towards capacity building of its human resource. DG Hussain said, "We are extremely grateful to VC-SU Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat, Dean Faculty of Education Dr Saleha Parveen and Dr Shakeela Shah for the workshop initiative. He also endorsed the audience opinion and slogan that 'Sindh University was a safe university'.
Renowned social science researcher and BISE Hyderabad Chairman Dr Mohammad Memon said that research must relate to society, take up social issues, undertake research and thereby bring relief to people. "Research involves three Rs ie Readiness, Relevance, Rigor", he explained. Dr Memon added that the quality of research in Pakistan needed to match international standards.
