SITE Association of Industry (SAI) condemns the recent incident of highhandedness by unscrupulous elements involved in disposing of the solid waste in front of factories. In one of the industries in SITE such unscrupulous people were discharging solid waste, upon the objection and complain of the owners of the industry and when it was asked them to refrain from disposing of the solid waste in front of factories and rather dispose it at the proper solid waste pit, they resorted to physical assault and tortured the owner of the factory and fled the scene.
SITE Association of Industry appreciates the efforts of hierarchy of police who came to the SITE and promised to apprehend the culprits.
SITE Association of Industry brings it to the notice of Chief Minister Sindh, Minister for Industries Sindh, Inspector General of Police Sindh and the local police of the SITE industrial area to take notice of this incident. This incident is not the first of its kind. SITE Area has been converted into a garbage heap. There is no solid waste management system in this area where thousands of workers earn their daily wages and more than 3,000 industries carry out production. It has been observed that different Mafias have surfaced and 'might is right' is the word of the day.
If the Government of Sindh is serious in continuing with the production and expansion of the same in the area where industrialists are suspicious about the CPEC and where they feel challenged about their competitiveness. Perhaps this is the right time when the Government should take care and help the industries in getting more competition by providing uninterrupted utilities and other infrastructural facilities in order to utilize the optimum capacity of the industries.
In China, 90% utilization of capacity is the norm whereas only due to government's lethargic and non-serious attitude in Pakistan the industries do not operate on more than 60% capacity utilization which would be rather impossible to compete with the industries working under the Chinese in the CPEC programme.-PR
