The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Friday launched a crackdown against adulterated milk in 144 Tehsils of the 36 districts of the province and discarded 115,000 liters of substandard milk. The PFA circles disclosed that pickets were erected at the entry and exit points of all the cities of the province and over 22,000 litres of substandard milk was wasted in Lahore alone after carrying out quality tests.
The milk was wasted on account of using different chemicals, water or stuff to make milk thick. DG PFA Noor-ul-Amin Mengal said that around 700 PFA teams carried out action against substandard milk right from Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur to Attock. He said pasteurization law had already been passed and sale of loose milk would be banned in next five years. After this citizen would have access to quality packaged milk, he claimed.
