Afghan National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar on Tuesday telephoned his Pakistani counterpart Lieutenant-General Nasser Khan Janjua (retd) and condoled over the killing of Pakistani diplomatic official in Jalalabad. The Afghan advisor expressed his grief sorrow over the incident and assured that Afghan security forces will investigate the matter and bring the involved elements to justice, according to a statement issued by Janjua's office.
It further stated that Atmar also said that Afghan President Ashraf Ghani will contact with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in this regard. Earlier in the day, Nayyar Iqbal Rana, a diplomatic official serving at the Consulate General of Pakistan at Jalalabad, was buried in a local graveyard in Islamabad. The funeral prayer was also attended by Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif along with other officers and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Nayyar Iqbal Rana was shot by two unknown assailants on a motor bike at a shop near his residence on Monday in Jalalabad. The incident was strongly condemned by Pakistan and Islamabad summoned Afghan Charge d'Affaires to lodge a strong protest against this heinous act and demanded that the perpetrators of this act of violence should be apprehended and brought to justice.
