Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Pakistan Senator Sirajul Haq, has said that Nawaz Sharif's remarks on the Supreme Court decision were unbecoming of his stature and his attempt to degrade the judiciary could pose a serious threat to the country's future. He was talking to the media at the Mazar-e-Iqbal after offering Fateha for the poet of the east who conceived the idea of a separate Muslim home land on his birth anniversary.
Sirajul Haq said that self-seeking politicians had always harmed the constitution and democracy. He said that a clash with the judiciary was not in the interest of the present government itself and it would be responsible for the consequences.
He said that Nawaz Sharif had a soft corner for India but his derogatory remarks about the country's courts were below his status as PML leader. He wondered what message Nawaz Sharif was giving to the masses. Sirajul Haq said that Allama Iqbal was the name of an ideology and a revolution as throughout his life, Allama Iqbal advocated for the unity of the Ummah. He said Iqbal's philosophy had a great role in the creation of Pakistan. Pakistan, he said, did not simply mean a geographical entity, It envisioned giving practical shape to Iqbal's ideology and teachings.
Sirajul Haq said the present rulers of the country had taken the west as their leader instead of Allama Iqbal, The rulers thought that success lay in the politics of fraud and falsehood. The educational, economic and social systems prevailing in the country were in conflict with the Iqbal's ideology. The past rulers of the country had caused the split of Pakistan only for the sake of their selfish ends and in the remaining part of the country too, democracy and politics were not getting roots due to their selfish outlook.
To a question on electoral reforms, the JI chief said the ruling PML-N had a majority in the National Assembly but on the day the government presented the Bill on electoral reforms, there were hardly fifteen government party MNAs in the house.
He said the government itself was not interested in the delimitation of constituencies and it had not made any effort to develop a consensus in this regard. He said if the political parties had differences on this issue, it was the government job to bring around them and resolve the issue. He said the government attitude shows that it does not want elections on time, but added that elections on time is a demand of the nation now.
