Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said on Thursday that India is using Afghan soil for terrorism in Balochistan. While talking to the media after addressing 24th convocation of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Ahsan Iqbal said that terror incidents in Pakistan are an attempt to sabotage multi-billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) but we will manage to resolve all such issues in near future.
The minister said that it is difficult to say anything about the killings of 15 young men in Balochistan because investigation was under way. The government has evolved an effective counter-terrorism strategy, he said, adding we are increasing the number of troops and border posts. He said significant development has taken place in science and technology sectors in a short span of time due to effective measures and prudent policies of the present government.
Responding on a question, he said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan is demanding early elections as he fears that his party's nominated candidates will not be elected in the Senate elections due in March next year. He said elections will be held on time and the election commission will formulate new electoral list till April 18 and the voter lists will be completed in May 18. The interior minister reiterated that the government will complete its term. He further said that every Pakistani believes that the country is on the path to progress.
"Every single Pakistani believes that today's Pakistan is better from its recent past," he said. Ahsan said Nawaz Sharif could have been his powers in formulation of JIT but he presented himself for accountability. He also said that the PPP never accepted the death sentence awarded to Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. In the same way, he feared, the decision given by the Supreme Court in the Nawaz Sharif case will be regretful for the court.
He said that Khatm-e-Nabuwat is part of our faith and we will not compromise on it. "Nobody has the right to do politics on this issue." While referring to the PTI in a satirical tone, Ahsan said that running a government requires experience and the nation cannot hand over its future to a person who has not even worked in a Union Council.
Earlier, while addressing the convocation he said in 2002 he was forced by the establishment to change his political loyalty but he refused to do so. He said the government is focusing on empowering the youth. Ahsan claimed that the PML-N government has started projects to produce 10,000MW of electricity. "Pakistan is ready to introduce 5G in information technology sector. Today Pakistan is in the emerging economies of the world," he added. Ahsan Iqbal was awarded honorary PhD degree in the convocation. Education Minister Syed Raza Ali Gilani and Vice Chancellor Dr Fazal Ahmad also addressed the convocation.
