Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari has directed that non-performing Chief Executive Officers(CEOs) of the Distribution Companies be shown the door if they fail to meet the targets assigned to them in the next review meeting scheduled for mid-December 2017.
According to an official statement, he has also further directed Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) to set targets and prepare key performance indicators (KPI) to gauge the ability of the present CEOs of all Discos. Presently, Additional Secretary, Power Division, Dr Aamir is head of Pepco in control of the Discos.
Federal Minister for Power Division passed these directions in a meeting on Friday which was attended by all the CEOs of Discos via video link. Senior officials from Power Division and PEPCO were also present during the meeting. He further directed PEPCO to prepare an officer based on seniority and track record of performance list for replacement of the present CEOs in case they fail to achieve the targets and KPIs in the next review meeting.
Federal Minister also directed PEPCO to write a letter to all BoDs of Discos to strictly monitor the performance of their respective Discos and take strong actions as per the existing rules against those failing to achieve the stipulated targets. He urged BoDs to play their role as described under the law and corporate governance rules. He said that the Power Division will take all steps to strengthen the BoDs.
The official statement further states that the Federal Minister made it clear that only performance and merit will prevail and those working hard must get the chance to serve the people. He said that the dynamics of power sector must change 180 degrees and it must change according to the aspirations of the consumers. He said that consumer''s service and facilitation is the central point of the CEO''s performance and all other indicators like controlling losses, improving recoveries and better service delivery must be associated with it.
"No political, personal or other kind of influence will work any more," Sardar Awais Leghari told the CEOs and said those looking to such means should find some other venues.
